In the rolling green hills of Northern California's San Benito County, a hundred miles away from the factory farms and polluting agricultural heavy machinery of the Central Valley, a family dedicated to organic and sustainable growth gently coaxes fine black fat walnuts from acres of mature and hearty trees. We feel our stewardship of the land and comprehensive care for our trees is the main reason our delicious walnuts are fast becoming favorites of everyone from regional professional chefs to home chef hobbyists to snackers looking for a healthy alternative.
Our Philosophy We believe the land provides all for those who use it well. Farming in America has undergone a dramatic and dangerous turn in the course of only one generation. The bucolic family farm has given way to large agribusiness concerns who manage not a single acre or single stand of trees but vast tens of thousands of acres, with planes raining chemicals and pesticides onto grids of trees, and helicopters ferrying farmers from one staging area to the next.
Of course these "farmers" are certainly entitled to pursue their own methods but ask yourself what you would rather put into your body: a nut grown with fresh water, abundant sunshine and organic practices on a family farm or a nut from a toxic and windblown desert where every single aspect of cultivation and harvest is plotted on computers and machined to produced maximum yield at all costs, with little concern for quality. There is a better way.
The Dara Farms Cycle After a restful and mild winter, our trees pop into life again in the spring, covering our farm with thousands of flowers. Soon the perfect summer conditions here in the San Benito valley plump the nuts up over a course of a few months. By the time the fall harvest rolls around, our walnuts are ready to come off the trees and find their way into your home. Our annual crop is reviewed bin by bin for quality. After we gently remove the hard outer shells gently removed, the nutmeats are placed in eco-friendly containers for our customers and friends to enjoy. We encourage you to explore recipes , read up on the benefits of walnuts, and even buy some for yourself.
